Josh and Mel’s beautiful and modern geometric wedding was my final Los Angeles wedding of last year and I couldn’t have been more pleased to end my wedding season with their big day. Not only did this spunky couple decide to include a hand crafted, colorful geometric ceremony backdrop and matching multi colored paper tassel garlands but they also incorporated glass terrariums filled with succulents as their simple yet elegant centerpieces. They spent a lot of time creating fun elements to showcase their personalities within their wedding day — which I absolutely love. I would probably have to say that my favorite two decorative elements of Mel and Josh’s wedding celebration were the custom M and J sprinkled donuts served with dessert and their thank you gifts (hand painted terracotta pots with gold geometric shapes and filled with various succulents). But hands down the best moment of the day for me was watching Josh and Mel take a shot of sake during their ceremony in honor of Mel’s Japanese heritage. Special details and moments like these really stick out and are so memorable to me, not to mention really fun to take pictures of!
Not only was this wedding my last of 2015 but it also took place in my hometown of La Canada Flintridge, right next door to Pasadena. The Thursday Club is a charming clubhouse with a darling courtyard and perfect indoor space for a small celebration. This venue happens to be tucked away in a small neighborhood without much open space for creative portraits but because this was my hometown I knew the perfect spot to take Mel and Josh for some quick sunset portraits right after their ceremony. We barely made it to the top of the mountain before the sun went down but we lucked out and snagged some pretty great golden hour portraits with the bride and groom! The night continued on with a gourmet pizza truck for dinner, lots of dancing, a fun photo booth and time spent with their wonderful guests.
